Day Out: Strasbourg
It’s been just one month since we moved to Germany and it’s been packed with all the not-fun parts of adulting (think back to back days of things like registering at your new medical and dental clinics, and getting a drivers license, and registering your car, and choosing new mobile phone plans, and moving into a new house, house repairs, new job, new everything). We’ve snuck in as many days as we can getting out to explore and have fun. One of the days out I really wanted to do before we returned our borrowed car was visiting Strasbourg. It’s just an hour and a half away, just over the border into France, and I lived there for a month when I was serving as a missionary 22 years ago.
Off the Beaten Path: Visiting Schwäbisch Hall
I was watching a Rick Steves something months ago and he mentioned how sometimes the best places aren’t in any of the travel books and I knew instantly what he was really saying. Traveling is amazing, but there is the experience of being a tourist, and then the experience of being a local and knowing the best hidden gems.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
It feels like we’ve been in Germany now a looonngg time, but it’s only been two weeks. After moving out of the hotel and into our apartment, we’ve been exploring where we live while running errands every day. It’s been a different tempo that is equal parts super busy, exhausting and stressful, and also feeling bored and wondering what to do with our time.
With a borrowed car, and Matt not read in to his work just yet, we decided to make a day trip.
