My favorite gift this Christmas season was unexpected. I have had the same violin case since upgrading to my performance instrument at age 14…a very long time. It did the job, but was heavy, had a broken strap and zipper, and was not a proper fit for my instrument which had resulted in damages and repairs over the years. I thought I wanted a Tonareli because they are light, beautiful, and, well, trendy. I was also a big fan of having backpack-style straps. Matt, my husband, took my request one step further and I am so glad he did. He searched reviews on cases on YouTube and different forums and settled on an Aileen case. I had never heard of it before so I was a bit surprised, but I LOVE IT! The fit is snug and secure and I am impressed with the quality and style. It is ultra-light and scratch resistant. It has an innovative neck brace and excellent quilted velvet for extra protection. It has a special hinge configuration that guarantees the top and bottom shells are always aligned, and the built-in hygrometer allows for moisture control to ensure sound quality is never compromised. This is important as I use gut strings that are sensitive to these changes. And I have my coveted backpack straps, as well. I am very pleased with it and anticipate using it for the next 20 years and beyond. What is your favorite case or accessory for your instrument? I would love to hear from you.
